Are you looking for an easy & warm breakfast? I don’t know about you but getting the kids fed a nutritious and filling breakfast before school can be a huge challenge! Oatmeal is the answer!
I know the instant packets of oatmeal are super easy but if your kids are like mine it takes a couple of packets to fill them and then they are hungry again in another hour. Plus I was concerned about just how much sugar is in those packets.
I created this recipe to be super easy. You can get it started and then get busy getting the kids ready for school without worrying about burning the oatmeal. The trick is to bring the oats to a boil and then cover it. Turn off the burner and let it sit to finish cooking.
These Enrichments Make Such a Difference
By adding milk, eggs and butter to the oatmeal you are adding lots of nutrition and staying power. You control how much sugar gets added as well. And it only takes 5 minutes of hands on time making it the perfect breakfast.
Scale The Recipe to Fit Your Needs
This recipe is very easy to scale up or down. Just make sure the liquid ratio is double the oats. It will take longer to bring to a boil with a bigger pot of oatmeal but it is still very easy.
Oatmeal Variations
The options for oatmeal mix-ins are nearly endless! We love brown sugar & cinnamon for a simple variation. Apple butter, peach butter, strawberry jam, and raspberry preserves are other favorites. You can always add raisins, chopped apples, or berries if you have them on hand.
My family loves this recipe and we have oatmeal once a week during the colder seasons. I hope you will enjoy it too!
