Our family loves this versatile bread recipe for artisan rolls. It great as a dinner roll or as a sandwich bun with its crisp exterior and tender, airy insides. The time it takes is very minimal just make sure to leave time for rising. If you like a more sourdough flavor, make sure to refrigerate the dough overnight after the initial rising.
Artisan Rolls
Easy bread recipe with only 4 ingredients and no kneading!
Ingredients
- 8 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon instant SAF yeast
- 1 1/2 tablespoons salt
- 4 cups warm water
Instructions
- Mix the flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl or container. Add water. Mix until everything is wet. Let rise for at least 2 hours. You can use the dough now or refrigerate for a more sourdough flavor.Heat oven to 425 degrees.Sprinkle the dough with flour and then form handful of dough into a large ball and place on a sheet pan. Repeat. This recipe makes about 16 rolls depending on the size of your balls.Let rolls rise for 20 minutes.Just before putting the rolls in the oven brush them with water and make a couple slices across the top of each roll.Bake for 20 minutes.
Notes
The rolls have a crisp crust and a soft airy crumb. These make great sandwich buns or are great with butter as a dinner roll.
